(Carpenters cover) A cover song for the November 2010 CBC Cosmic Challenge. It's a quirky tune, first recorded by a Canadian group called Klaatu and then later made famous by the Carpenters. Enjoy! :)

Queen of the Cover Songs...
This is something I'm doing just for fun -- to live out a lifelong dream since the age of around 7 or so when I realized that I could carry a tune (without the use of a bucket!) and it didn't sound bad. Much love and thanks go to those in my SoundClick family (and now beyond!) who helped to encourage/challenge me to spread my wings to try this out and continue to take it to the next level. Without your kind support I'd still be just a listener (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Story behind the song
This is a recording first for me...the backing track I used for this only had the instrumental, NO backing vocals so the vocals in this are all me -- 4 separate recordings! (Along with the usual duplication and reverb/compression that seems to work so well so far) Unfortunately, this backing version changed the song quite a bit -- left out an entire verse and a few lines, so this is what I had to work with. I also added my favorite Carpenters phrase ("anti-adversary") at the end (even though it wasn't in the original Klaatu version). Hello Ms. Mary, Thanks for sending the friendship message. You did an excellent job of performing this Klaatu tune....superb vocals and timing....a tough song to arrange and perform and you made it sound easy as a snap!!!!! When this song first came out with the first Klaatu album, a lot of folks thought it was The Beatles back together, especially since all of the songs had only the name Klaatu as the writers and that The Carpenters covered it so quickly. Anyway, you did an extraordinary job with this song.... I enjoyed the listen, Thanks!!!! Best to you and yours, Wade

Like this a lot! Very good harmonies composing and performing. Your vocals continue to express joy, sensibility and conviction. We rarely use the stars here at SC as a sincere rating instrument - a little pity - but here I do, because I keep hearing a quality which promises more!

You have a GREAT VOICE, Mary...and you did a super job on this high quality recording of an "oldie" which we so love...it is especially wonderful to see another New Yorker, from Albany, on SoundClick and most importantly, on Judie's Coconut Blues Club! Double tracking in all the right places helps to make this an excellent job and it has a few tricky changes too. So well done on that!!! The melody leaves a little to be desired to my mind (and I really should have only done 3 lines of stars). However, the backing track was also very impressive (as well as your vocal). In fact, by the end, I was almost beginning to like the song, LOL!!!
