Story behind the song
A prog rock song about a young man, away at college, that was diagnosed as being bipolar. He committed suicide by over-dosing with a web cam set up and a chat room looking on. No one called for help until it was too late.....they thought it was a prank. The story is told from a news article. I typically prefer to write uplifting lyric and songs but this was so tragic that I felt the need to share it. I tried to put myself in the young man's place which allowed the words to flow freely. It was a sad day and a black mark on our developing society.
Lyrics
Last Day (V1) It was just, a teenage bi-polar day But this one was really down Nothing seemed to be working There was no one to talk too and I'm losing ground Then an idea was born from a skewed thought What if one could off themselves? With the whole world watching How cool would that be? (V2) All I need, a connection to the net A web cam and a stupid chat room A private place, with a cozy bed And an audience eager to see it happen Maybe some benzo mixed with opiates A handful should do the trick And leave time to be saved After all, no one's that sick (Chr) Well the joke is on you all The moment of jest's no more You wanted to see me fall To the weight of a losing war With no smile on your faces Left are your cruel looks You've tumbled out of graces From the life that you all took (brdg) But I don't really want to die, I'm just screaming out for help Some one will hear my plea and they will rescue me Why are they telling me to do it........to kill myself? I'm so confused, are they really wanting to watch me die? My father had no reason to believe I was having problems. "You were a good son," he said. "I'm sorry that no one could help you, When I was not around to help you myself." What the hell is wrong with this picture? How can anyone be so de-sensitized? To watch someone take their own life And never lift a finger, until death takes it's prize Why are they telling me to do it........to kill myself? I'm so confused, are they really wanting to watch me die? My father had no reason to believe I was having problems. "You were a good son," he said. "I'm sorry that no one could help you, When I was not around to help you myself." (Chr) Well the joke is on you all The moment of jest's no more You wanted to see me fall To the weight of a losing war With no smile on your faces Left are your cruel looks You've tumbled out of graces From the life that you all took It was just a teenage bipolar day Farrell Jackson © 11-26-08
