I had a feeling that we might not make it out alive. We were pinned down and the gunships were nowhere in sight. Tracers flying overhead and they sounded like bees. A klick away was the only LZ but it really don't matter cause the slicks can't land anyway. H & I hit this hill just a few hours ago. The S2 man said they hit it hard and if you make contact that it should be very low. Now I look over and see a short timer friend: his eyes were big he's clutching his chest. Two more weeks and he would have been home; now he's thinking that he's dying alone. He's wrong you know cause if he'd look to see; I'm dying too next to this jungle tree.
