Vietnam Man
He volunteered to fight without hesitation
The year was 1967
Back in the day when men were men
He was Lost in the Woods when he turned 19
Just a home sick boy from Tennessee
The only thing he owned was his family name
The American people did not understand
The heart and soul of the Vietnam Man
To walk with honor and his head held high
The Air Force flew him to Cam Ranh Bay
The year was 1968
His final destination was Con Tien
Politicians lied. Young men died
All he could do was to take it in stride
Keep telling himself "It don't mean nothing"
The American people did not understand
The living hell of the Vietnam Man
Fighting another man's war in another man's land
When he came back home he tried to leave it behind
The year was 1969
But the war raged on in the back of his mind
He reached out to the VA Man but he wasn't a part of the VA's plan
They closed the door and he never went back
The American people do not understand
How we subjugated the Vietnam Man
Just a ghost in the public eye
His hair is gray. He's not as tall
He still cries when he looks at the wall
58,000 brothers who were KIA
Now he's made peace with society
His tribe has left it's mark on humanity
Shout out to the VFW and the VVA
The American people finally understand
The debt we owe to the Vietnam Man
Sent to fight and die for Uncle Sam
And on the day that he's laid to rest
Saint Peter's gonna meet him with a Kevlar vest
Cause heaven holds a special place for the Vietnam Man
Yes heaven holds a special place for the Vietnam Man
