Collaboration with Patricia Bishop and David Hanshaw
I'm a lyricist and collaborate with other singer/songwriters.
Story behind the song
I read an article last year in our local newspaper Fort Bend Star by Beverly Carter (Bev's Burner) challenging someone to write a country song with the title You're Too Young To Be Old...and this is the result. I wrote the lyrics and David Hanshaw was kind enough to do the music and singing.
Lyrics
Way Too Young (To Be So Old)
By Patricia Bishop & David Hanshaw 2010
V1
Sometimes her dreams take her back to when she lived at home
Dancing, singing with her folk; she never felt alone
Those days are gone forever; she chose another life
Ran off with the man she loved hoping to be his wife
V2
She comes home late at night and stumbles into bed
Sleeps till early morning when the sun beats on her head
Wakes with one eye open; an aching in her knee
Feeling like shes ninety but shes only thirty-three
Chorus
Shes way too young to be so old
With no music in her heart
No rhythm in her soul
Shes way too young to be so old
V3
Love can make you do things you never thought you would
She tried to find the good in him but she never could
Now shes working two jobs to keep her children fed
Wishing she could give them the life that she once had
Chorus
Shes way too young to be so old
With no music in her heart
No rhythm in her soul
Shes way too young to be so old
Bridge
Momma tried to tell her Why dont you take some time
To get to know him better cause love can make you blind
Last Chorus
And youre way too young to be so old
No music in your heart
No rhythm in your soul
Youre way too young
Youre way too young
Youre way too young to be so old
Way too young (repeat to fade)
